Ms. Kelly Self holds dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Education and Vocal Performance from Chapman University Conservatory of Music. Upon graduation, she received the Conservatory Choral Music Education Award. She additionally holds a Master of Arts degree in Teaching (Music) from Chapman University.
Ms. Self currently sings as a member of the Pacific Chorale, located in Orange County. Within this choral organization, she serves on the Artist Council and has had the opportunity to sing with the Pacific Symphony in their opera productions of Tosca, La Traviata, Carmen, and Turandot. Throughout her career, Ms. Self has had the opportunity to perform several choral solos in works such as Schubert’s Tantum Ergo and Magnificat, Rutter’s Requiem, and Mozart’s Vesperae solemnes. She has sung in prominent venues such as the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and the Notre Dame Cathedral. During the holiday season, Ms. Self has sung within the caroling troupe, The Charles Dickens Carolers. Ms. Self additionally has extensive individual vocal accomplishments. She has performed in numerous recitals and has won scholarships and awards for her vocal talent. She has played Despina (Così fan Tutti), Adele (Die Fledermaus), and Clo-Clo (The Merry Widow) in orchestrated opera scenes.
Ms. Self is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Southern California Vocal Association, and National Association for Music Education. Ms. Self currently serves on the SCVA board as the secretary. She frequently attends choral conferences and workshops .
Under the direction of Ms. Self, the RUHS choirs received Superior rankings at the Southern California Vocal Association Festival in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Sea Hawk Singers received Gold ratings during their tour to San Francisco in 2018. This is Ms. Self’s fourth year teaching at Redondo Union High School.
