Course Description

English 9 CP is a language arts course based on the California English-Language Arts Common Core Standards for the 9th and 10th grades. In this course students will read a variety of diverse authors and texts, including "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Romeo and Juliet," "Lord of the Flies," and Short Stories. Students will explore universal themes of identity, the individual and society, and the human existence as they learn literacy skills and rhetorical devices. In addition to reading in class, students are expected to read outside reading books independently. Vocabulary development and grammar instruction will be integrated into writing assignments. Above all else students will read, write, listen, and speak for purpose, learning, and mastery, and present their own creative work in a safe and supportive environment.
