End of Year Message from Principal Brandt

Redondo, 18-19 has been yet another historic year for our Sea Hawk community. Our students, led by our seniors, RUHS Class of 2019, were involved in a variety of academic and extracurricular experiences, contributions, and accomplishments.

ASB and LinkCrew enthusiastically welcomed everyone back to school in the fall. We had a fantastic homecoming rally and dance, with yet another record number of students attending. Our outstanding theatre arts program continues to put together professional-level performances. Our phenomenal marching band, dance guard, jazz band, choir competed and placed at the highest levels, continuing their growth as some of the best programs in the LA area. Our students’ art work is recognized at the national level and our Evening of the Arts continues to be one of the best events of the year. Our athletics program produced, yet again, a number of student-athletes who will study and compete in college athletics across the country. We would especially like to highlight two remarkable RUHS students; Sangjun Lee is not only our valedictorian, he is also the CIF Southern Section Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  And Drew Dalquist was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. Our second highest draft pick in RUHS history.  Absolutely extraordinary representatives of our class of ’19 and Redondo Union!

Our robotics team competed, once again, at the highest levels. Programs such as Mock Trial, Model UN, and Teen Court continue to provide our students with opportunities to think critically and creatively, collaborate with others, and effectively communicate their questions and thoughts. Our MCJROTC class continues to be recognized as one of the top programs in Southern California and we appreciate all of the volunteer hours of our cadets. Also, our journalism and yearbook classes continue to be recognized for their tremendous publications at the state and national levels. Our amazing counselors, The Nest, and our awesome AVID program continue to promote our college-going culture for ALL students. Additionally, our wonderful relationships with PTSA, RBEF, and BCHD continue to flourish and provide healthy and happy opportunities for our students both on and off campus. Our students continue to enjoy opportunities to explore career pathways through Workability, SCROC, and El Camino.

We also appreciate all of the 90+ clubs that our students continue to take part in. Whether it’s LGBT+, Make a Wish, Friendship Circle, Girls Who Code, and the list goes on, we appreciate all of the club advisors and students that are involved on our diverse and supportive RUHS campus.

Our teachers and staff continue to provide exceptional and engaging teaching and learning opportunities for our students. Through promoting student-centered instruction, 21st Century Skills, Project-Based Learning, and social awareness, our teachers and staff continue to raise rigor and relevance across our entire campus. Our students are better prepared for college and career due to our teachers’ unwavering efforts to ensure success and happiness for all RUHS students. Moreover, we are indebted to our incredibly supportive and communicative parents and families. We sincerely appreciate your understanding that it truly takes a village to raise our young people.

Finally, a special thank you to our awesome broadcasting students, Mr. Sheehey, and RUTV for another fabulous year. We appreciate everything you do to highlight the best of Redondo! Please be sure to watch graduation on RUTV.

Students, teachers, and staff, thank you for yet another phenomenal year at RUHS. Your contributions make Redondo a wonderful place to teach, learn, and work. Congratulations on an outstanding school year! We look forward to celebrating our seniors, class of 2019, at graduation this Thursday at 3pm. We hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable summer break. We also look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Wednesday, August 21st. Thank you, RUHS students, families, and staff, we appreciate every single one of you!

With gratitude,

Jens Brandt
