Principal's Message

Dear RUHS Families and Community,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I hope you and your families had a wonderful summer and an opportunity to relax, recharge, and spend time together. There’s nothing quite like the energy and excitement at the beginning of a new school year. 

As we begin the year, I want to thank our families and community for your continued partnership and support. The success of RUHS is truly a community effort, and we are fortunate to have families who are so invested in our students and our school.

Celebrating Our Sea Hawks

Last year was another outstanding year at RUHS. Our students achieved a 96.63% AP exam pass rate, with nearly 2,700 AP exams taken by more than 1,200 students. We saw growth in CAASPP participation and student performance, expanded rigorous academic opportunities with the launch of Cambridge International, and celebrated tremendous accomplishments in Robotics, Academic Decathlon, Mock Trial, Model UN, athletics, theater, visual and performing arts, Career Technical Education, and many other programs.

Our students also brought home CIF or State Championships in Cheer, Boys Cross Country, Boys Wrestling, and Beach Volleyball Pairs. We are incredibly proud of what our students accomplished and grateful to the teachers, staff, coaches, families, and community members who supported them along the way.

Our Focus for 2026–2027

This year, our schoolwide focus is Improving Student Academic Achievement Outcomes.

For us, student achievement is about much more than test scores or GPAs. It means ensuring every student grows academically, thinks critically, feels connected to our school, and leaves RUHS prepared for college, career, and life.

We will continue to keep students at the center of our decisions, provide engaging and meaningful learning experiences, expand opportunities for students, and work collaboratively with our families to help every student succeed.

Thank You, PTSA and RBEF

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our RUHS PTSA and the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation (RBEF). Their contributions provide programs, resources, opportunities, and experiences for our students that would not otherwise be possible.

I strongly encourage every RUHS family to join our PTSA and, if you are able, invest in RBUSD students through RBEF. Every membership and every contribution strengthens the opportunities we can provide our students. Thank you to the families who have already supported these organizations and continue to invest in our schools.

Measure S Improvements at RUHS

I also want to thank our community for its support of Measure S. Your investment in our schools is already making a visible difference across the RUHS campus.

Over the summer, we completed or continued several important campus improvements, including:

• Updated stadium seating at the Sea Hawk Bowl
• New and updated roofing and gutter systems
• New paper towel and soap dispensers in student and staff restrooms
• New clocks and speakers in classrooms and offices
• Upgraded security cameras throughout campus
• Improvements to our buzz-in system
• New Samsung interactive classroom boards
• Repainting and repaving of the turnaround on Francisca Avenue
• New LED lighting in several buildings

These improvements enhance the safety, functionality, and learning environment of our campus. We are grateful to the Redondo Beach community for supporting the Measure S bond and investing in our students and schools.

Personal Device Expectations

As we begin the new school year, we also want to remind families about RBUSD's expectations for personal mobile communication devices. At RUHS, students may use their devices during passing periods, snack, and lunch; however, during instructional time, personal smart devices must be silenced and secured in the classroom's designated storage location unless authorized by the teacher for an instructional purpose.

This consistent schoolwide approach is designed to reduce distractions, support student learning and well-being, and help create focused and engaging classrooms. We appreciate our families' partnership in reinforcing these expectations with students before the first day of school. Stronger Together

RUHS is a special place because of the people who make up our community. Our students, staff, families, PTSA, RBEF, and community partners all play an important role in our success.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support. We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to working together to make 2026–2027 another outstanding year for our Sea Hawks!
