RBEF NEWS
Your RBEF Dollars at work for RUHS Biology students:
Incorporating research experience into the course is an effective way to move students from passive consumers of information to active creators of knowledge, fostering deep conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and genuine engagement with scientific principles. The open-ended question students were tasked to investigate was “Do arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi help alfalfa develop resistance to abiotic stressors commonly found in agricultural settings?”. Students devise ways to collect and analyze data and use quantitative reasoning skills to interpret the mathematical relationships between the variables. "We are very grateful to RBEF for the funds to buy all the necessary material like seed starter trays, potting mix, mycorrhizal fungi and plants, as well as tools that can be re-used for years to come, such as stereo- microscopes and grow lamps" said Ms. Gillian Moberg, AP Environmental Science Teacher. At the end, students will have to communicate their findings in a poster session, effectively explain the scientific concepts, data and methods, and critically evaluate the limitations in their investigation. "It is always gratifying to see how engaged and invested the students are in the success of their plants and the learning that follows" said Ms. Meagan Chew, AP Environmental Science and Chemistry Teacher.
RBEF SUMMER SCHOOL
RBEF Summer School: Registration is now open for RBEF Middle and High School Summer Sessions - offering both credit and enrichment opportunities designed to keep students learning, exploring, and growing all summer long. At the high school level, we offer credit-based classes to help students get ahead and free up their schedule – Geometry, Music Appreciation, Modern History, US History, Ethnic Studies, Financial Literacy, and Expository Writing - but also enrichment classes like Algebra 1 Prep, Study Skills, and PSAT/SAT Prep to help them prepare for the upcoming year. The RBEF Summer Sessions help students stay engaged, build confidence, and prepare for the year ahead. Explore the full list of classes and find the right fit for your student.
