PTSA
RUHS PTSA needs your feedback for National PTA School of Excellence Program
The RUHS PTSA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders, and community members is important to the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students. Last year, we received a National PTA School of Excellence designation and won a national award for outstanding achievement engaging families in student success.
As part of the process outlined by National PTA, we are requesting feedback from families, administrators, and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. Using community feedback, we will build an Excellence Action Plan to strengthen family-school partnerships. Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete this survey. The survey closes on June 7.

RBEF NEWS
Your RBEF Dollars at work in the Special Day Class (SDC):
SDC is a term used in special education to describe a self-contained classroom that provides services to students with intensive needs that cannot be met by the general education program. As part of the RUHS Student Authors Program, the RBEF grant funded the publication of 20 hardcover collaborative books written by the students in Dr. Mallet's Language Arts class.
The RUHS Student Author Program provided students with disabilities an authentic opportunity to become published authors while developing critical academic, communication, and social-emotional skills. Through structured writing instruction, storytelling, collaboration with peers and staff, and participation in a public book signing event, students demonstrated increased confidence, self-expression, literacy skills, and a stronger sense of belonging within the school community.
A significant benefit of this program was that students were viewed not through the lens of disability, but as creators, storytellers, and leaders with meaningful voices and experiences to share. The program promoted student ownership, creativity, and perseverance while strengthening skills in reading, writing, speaking, collaboration, and self-advocacy. Students also experienced the pride of presenting their work to an authentic audience, which reinforced motivation, engagement, and personal achievement.
In addition, the program fostered interdisciplinary collaboration among special education teachers, instructional aides, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists to ensure students received individualized supports throughout the creative process. This collaborative model increased access, participation, and communication for diverse learners while creating an inclusive environment where every student’s voice was valued and celebrated.
Your RBEF Dollars at Work in RUHS World Languages and Cultures department:
On Friday May 15th, around 80 students learning French at RUHS and a dozen of chaperons visited the Norton Simeon Museum, a world-renowned art museum located in Pasadena. It was the first time visiting this museum for almost of all the students and parent chaperones. Students were presented with art from the Francophone world such as Degas and Monet, as well as other countries such as Van Gogh, Picasso or Rembrandt. It connects their learning from within the classroom to the real world. The objective was for students to make connections from lessons taught across various curriculum in French as well as other subjects on campus and be able to compare and contrast to what they already know. Only the RUHS visitors were allowed inside the museum, allowing each group to have a high-quality set-up with the Museum's educators and the paintings. One of the guides gave the tour in French for level 3-4-AP students.
"Not only does this field trip enhance the student's confidence in knowing that what they are studying at school can be used locally, but it also gives them the exposure to possible future studies and career pathways they may not have considered. I am very grateful to RBEF to have funded the ever-increasing transportation costs." said Madame Graffio, French 1,2,3,4 & AP teacher.
