Maddie Schonberg
Hi, my name is Maddie Schonberg! I am a school counseling intern pursuing my master’s at Cal State Dominguez Hills. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Centenary College of Louisiana where I played volleyball and did track and field. I am excited to be a part of the wellness center this year!
I believe that students should have a strong support system at school because that is where they spend a lot of their time. A place where their version of success can be met within academics, college/career planning, and social-emotional well being. I hope to be a part of students’ teams and help them navigate high school even if it is just a reminder that someone is looking out for them.
When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, playing volleyball and working out. I am also a coach at Nfinity Volleyball club. I love spending time with family and friends and taking time to engage in self care. Fun fact: I graduated from RUHS in 2020, and my dad is a school counselor here.
I am looking forward to this year and gaining more experience at the high school level and connecting with everyone. I will be at the wellness center on Mondays and Thursdays! My email is [email protected] and there are QR codes around campus to request meetings as well!
Karol Hernandez
It’s such a pleasure to be part of the RUHS Wellness Center! My name is Karol, and I’m a graduate intern pursuing my second master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Vanguard University.
I have a deep passion for psychology and personal growth. I truly believe that every person has the potential to become the best version of themselves. We all deserve to be heard, to feel safe, and to explore our emotions in an environment of respect and harmony. My goal is to help you feel understood, empowered, and ready to navigate the challenges you may face at school and in life.
I’m here to listen and support you in any way you need—whether it’s discussing what’s on your mind, learning stress-management tools, or simply having a safe space to be yourself. I speak English and Spanish, so if you’d like to practice your Spanish or have a session in your native language, I’d be happy to assist.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and my puppy “Luna”, traveling, and staying active, which helps me clear my mind.
I’m truly excited to begin this journey and connect with you. I’ll be at the Wellness Center on Wednesdays and Fridays, so feel free to stop by. You can also reach out to me at [email protected] or scan the QR code to make an appointment. I’m here for you!
Aidalay Galan
Hello my name is Ms. Aidalay! I am a graduate intern at the Wellness Center. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and a certification in Human Services from San Bernardino Valley College. I have worked with children who attended the Boys and Girls Club afterschool program and who have autism (ASD) or other developmental disorders for 5 and a half years in various settings (home, clinic, and school). I am currently in my final year of my master’s program at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), where I will pursue my M.A. in counseling, LPCC eligibility, and PPS credential. Outside of this internship experience, you can find me attending events with the counseling organization at LMU, prioritizing my yoga self-care, listening to my Spotify playlist, or spending time with family.
Personally, I know that concerns about choosing a career path may arise when transitioning outside of high school. Depending on what you choose to do, I would be happy to guide you. I would also add that the social, emotional, and mental health aspects also matter and should be addressed with the best of my abilities. The emotional aspect I am passionate about because I know that one can benefit if they know how to self-regulate during times of stress, big changes in their lives, and difficult relationships. I am excited for this school year with RUHS students and staff. I will be at the Wellness Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so feel free to stop by. You can also reach out to me at [email protected] or scan the QR code to make an appointment. I’m here for you!
Luisa Bernardino
Hi!! My name is Luisa Bernardino and I am a school-based therapist through the non-profit South Bay Children’s Health Center. I am so excited to be part of the RUHS family for a third year!! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and have a master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. For the past four years, I have had the privilege of solely working with youth and young adults through school-based counseling and allcove Beach Cities. I am very passionate about building relationships and community, connecting with youth, focusing on prevention, and destigmatizing mental health. I believe all students have the capacity to be the best versions of themselves with the right support and guidance. I embrace a collaborative approach and understand the importance of allowing young people to be heard and seen. I look forward to continuing to assist students as they navigate their challenges and build the tools needed to help them feel empowered while also fostering connections with caregivers, parents, and staff.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, cooking, listening to music, reading, and finding joy in shared laughter.
You can find me Monday through Friday at Faculty Room 112A in the Science and Art building. My RUHS extension is 4127.
I look forward to meeting you!
